This line, which links Latour-de-Carol to Villefranche-Vernet-Les-Bains all year round, was inaugurated in 1910 to open up the Catalan highlands. It crosses the mountain in the middle of nature. Its speed is limited due to the curves and the steep slope. It covers 62 kilometers, with the highest point in France, Bolquère, at 1592 meters above sea level.
Its route is punctuated by 650 structures, 19 tunnels and 2 exceptional bridges: the Séjourné viaduct and the Gisclard Bridge.
